Hello, dear readers!
If you’ve visited this site in the past, you’ll notice that things look a little bit different. I’ve made a couple of changes - some obvious, some not-so-obvious. Let’s talk about them.
Theme Update
First, the most obvious - this blog is now using a different theme!
The theme I was using before was based on a theme I saw a couple of my friends’ blogs using, with a unique photo in the top section of each post and a bright overall appearance. I first set Hexo up in 2017 and at the time I was very interested in that style of blog. That said… times change, and so too do preferences - I find myself being drawn to simpler, cleaner blog styles these days.
I debated switching static site generation frameworks (and I do eventually want to try out some newer SSGs), but decided to just take an existing theme which was close to what I wanted and modify it to suit my needs. The theme I chose was Cactus by Pieter Robberechts, which was 95% of what I was looking for - I just had to tweak it in order to get the subtitles/excerpts to show up in the index and archive pages.
You’ll probably notice some small things changing here and there (fonts, spacing, etc) because I’m never happy with the way things are, but I’m definitely more pleased with this theme in 2025 than I was with the old theme!
RSS Feed
I didn’t have a RSS feed enabled for this blog because, to be honest, I didn’t think there was any demand for it. That said, as part of the site tweaks, I’ve also enabled RSS for those readers who would like it - you can find links to the feed in the header and footer of this site.
Removal of Comments
Finally, I’ve gone ahead and disabled Disqus for comments on this site. The reason is simple - in the 8 years that I’ve been using Hexo, I can count on one hand the number of comments I’ve received - so in an effort to keep the layout of the site clean I’ve removed comments. If you want to discuss the contents of any post that I make, you can either reach out to me directly or you can share the post and discuss it on your own!
Conclusion and Future Posts
I’m a big fan of these changes, and I hope that you are as well!
As far as the future of this blog goes - I’m going to start expanding the scope of posts that I make here. This blog is attached to my name, but was previously only used for computery/techy posts - and tech is only one facet of my life and is only one thing I enjoy discussing. As such, you’ll probably see more variation in the topics of posts that appear in this space.
I hope you’ll continue to join me - I’m looking forward to what comes next!
